  Princess Vera Ignatievna Gedroits was a Russian doctor of medicine and author. She was the first woman military surgeon in Russia, the first woman professor of surgery, and the first woman to serve as a physician in the Imperial Palace of Russia.   Anandi Gopal Joshi Anandibai Gopalrao Joshi  or  A G Joshi  (31 March 1865 – 26 February 1887) was one of the first Indian female practitioners of western medicine, alongside  Kadambini Ganguly . [1] [2] [3] [4]  She was the first woman from the erstwhile  Bombay presidency  of  India  to study and graduate with a two-year degree in western medicine in the  United States . [5]  She was also referred to as  Anandibai Joshi  and  Anandi Gopal Joshi  (where  Gopal  came from  Gopalrao , which is her husband's first name).
